What’s So Good About HD TV And HD DVD?The first High Definition DVD players started trickling out of Japan in March 2006. Since then they’ve made huge inroads into the UK market. So what’s all the fuss about? If you’ve already got a HD television or plasma screen, you’ll want, (or rather, crave) a HD DVD player to go with it. As a term ‘High Definition’ appears self explanatory: TV and DVD pictures are clearer and more lifelike. (But that doesn’t even begin to do it justice.) HD picture resolution is astonishingly lifelike. HD TV screens are truly windows on the world; every sumptuous image bursting with colour and detail. Okay, so that might sound like a load of old hype, but let’s look at it in practical terms. HD TV picture resolution is at least twice as clear and twice as sharp as conventional TV; in some cases, even more! (As a rough guide, standard UK TV broadcasts are at a resolution of 720 * 576 pixels, but HD TV is transmitted at a resolution of 1920 * 1080 pixels.) If you’re a sports fan, you’ll get closer than ever to the action. You’ll be able to assess the lie of the green, the state of the wicket, or count the wrinkles on the England Football manager’s face. Love wildlife? You’ll get closer than ever to nature. You’ll be able to linger over every jaw dropping detail. Into music? HD TV gives you unsurpassed audio performance in Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS. HD TV is already synonymous with unsurpassed audio and video quality. And now, thankfully, so is DVD. In March 2006, DVD players finally caught up. HD DVD (including Blue Ray) is the only format worthy of HD TV. It’s the only way to watch all those 16:9 aspect wide screen movies in the high clarity, data rich way that nature (and film makers) always intended! Stop watching TV; start experiencing it…
